EDF bid for British Energy in tatters

EDF said on Friday it still intended to become the leading player in the UK’s new generation of nuclear power plants, even though its offer to buy British Energy was embarrassingly rebuffed just hours before a deal was due to be announced.

“Our ambition and determination remains intact,” Pierre Gaddoneix, chief executive of the French power group, told a press conference in Paris.
