Stakebuilding lifts M&B

John Magnier and JP McManus, the Irish racing tycoons, have built a stake in Mitchells & Butlers, the pub and restaurant operator that was recently forced to scrap a £4.5bn ($9.3bn) property deal.

They have acquired a 3.4 per cent holding worth £84m in the operator of the All Bar One and Harvester chains through Elpida, an investment group.
