Former president Mohammad Khatami said on Thursday the mass disqualification of reformist candidates in Iran’s forthcoming parliamentary elections was a “disaster” and warned against “pre-determining people’s votes”.

In his first public reaction to the disqualifications, Mr Khatami said “The [upcoming] election is only one issue, but it is very dangerous if this trend becomes a norm,” he said.
