Hopes rest on spenders and lenders

When the FTSE 100 turned in the best quarterly performance in its 25-year history this week, Recovery Watch thought its mission might be over already.

Stock markets are generally considered to be signposts to future trends and the return of strong corporate profits surely is a signal that the recession is ending.
