Italian prosecutors asked on Tuesday for 35 people, including 25 Americans alleged to be agents of the Central Intelligence Agency, to be put on trial on charges of kidnapping an Egyptian imam in Milan and spiriting him abroad in February 2003.
Among those listed in the indictment request was General Nicolò Pollari, the outgoing head of Italy’s military intelligence service, whom the centre-left government removed from his post last month.
