Middle classes put spending on hold

The highest-earning British households are increasingly holding back from spending because of fears that they will struggle to borrow more in the future, according to Bank of England research published on Monday.

In a survey of the finances of 2,500 residences, large-income, middle-class households saw the biggest increase in a tendency to delay purchases, compared with last year.
