Scramble is on to rebalance holdings

Scores of private investors are looking to rebalance their investment portfolios following the dramatic failure of Lehman Brothers and the rescue of the insurer American International Group this week.

Advisers who manage investments for the long haul have begun to scour the markets for opportunities, with some already moving to swap investment-grade bonds and gilts for fallen shares. Market-tracking funds are also being purchased on the view that markets must one day rise.
