Spotify hopes to steer fans away from piracy

Lord Carter’s Digital Britain report last month increased pressure on music companies, telecoms groups and software developers to collaborate on new digital services that will prove more appealing than piracy.

That has only added to the hype surrounding the latest online music service: Spotify. Described as “21st century radio”, it gives instant access to millions of tracks online. It learns listeners’ preferences and makes new recommendations.
