Renaissance fund falls victim to turmoil

Renaissance Technologies, the hedge fund run by billionaire James Simons, has fallen victim to the recent market turmoil, with its institutional equities fund sinking 8.7 per cent in the first few days of August.

It comes as market volatility plays havoc with the models of quantitative hedge fund managers.
