Nigerian president takes oil portfolio

President Umaru Yar’Adua of Nigeria named a cabinet on Thursday after two months of post-election wrangling, leaving himself in effective control of the oil portfolio.

The new team included technocrats likely to deepen reforms started under the previous government, including the new finance minister, Shamsudeen Usman, a deputy governor of the central bank.
