LG Electronics, South Korea’s biggest home appliance maker, reported its first net loss in seven quarters on Thursday, hit by the falling margins for handsets and flat-panel televisions caused by a fierce price war.

The company also presented a bleak 2009 outlook, predicting that earnings would fall this year amid slumping demand and stiff competition, with the global economy mired in a deep recession.
