Universities’ social equality drive falters

The proportion of students who go to England’s top universities from working-class backgrounds has fallen in spite of government efforts to raise it, analysis by the National Union of Students suggests.

The findings could exacerbate fears that Britain’s lack of social mobility will stunt long-term economic growth as many young people are not making the most of their talents.
