Fuel cells: China may be part of the solution

Earlier this month Ford and DaimlerChrysler took full control of the German subsidiary of Ballard Power Systems, the Canadian fuel cell research specialist which has made much of the motor industry’s running towards replacing vehicles’ internal combustion engines with pollution-free, hydrogen-powered fuel cells.

The US and German car groups, which have been collaborating with Ballard for several years, will now pump a further $59m into the company to take development further.
