Mugabe declares cholera epidemic over

Robert Mugabe, Zimbabwe’s president, on Thursday declared that the country’s cholera outbreak that has cost some 800 lives was over.

His extraordinary claim, made in a nationally televised speech was immediately contradicted by the World Health Organisation, the French Government and the South African authorities who earlier on Thursday had declared the border with Zimbabwe a disaster area.
