Hopes rise for end to postal dispute

Hopes were rising on Thursday of a deal to end the postal strikes, bringing relief to businesses and consumers in the run-up to Christmas.

The 17-member postal executive of the Communication Workers Union was meeting to consider the outcome of three days of intensive negotiations chaired by Brendan Barber, general secretary of the Trades Union Congress.
