Osborne attacks City excesses

Britain’s biggest banks should stop paying big cash bonuses or face being barred from receiving state support, George Osborne, shadow chancellor, argued on Monday in an attack on City excess.

In a speech outlining an “emergency plan” to stop taxpayer support being diverted into bankers’ pay, Mr Osborne called on all retail banks to pay bonuses in new shares until consumer credit flows recover.
