UK welcome for China sovereign funds

The boss of the China Investment Corporation will be told next week that his $200bn business is welcome in London, after a UK Treasury minister mounted the government’s most vigorous defence yet of sovereign wealth funds.

Kitty Ussher, the UK’s City minister, said on Tuesday that London was the logical operations centre for sovereign funds – including those set up by Beijing and oil-rich Gulf states – which have become the subject of growing criticism in recent months.
