Bruised by the defeat of his party in recent parliamentary elections, Lech Kaczynski, Poland’s conservative president, on Wednesday signalled his intention to make life difficult for the incoming liberal Civic Platform government.
In his first public comments since polls 10 days ago, Mr Kaczynski cast doubt on the acceptability of the man tipped to be foreign minister, saying he had secret information about Radoslaw Sikorski that would disqualify him from holding high office. “This type of candidate does not encourage co-operation between the president and the government,” Mr Kaczynski told Rzeczpospolita newspaper.
