Tokyo suffers company listings decline

The number of companies listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange’s first section is set to fall for the first time since 1966, as market turmoil hits new listings and corporate bankruptcies rise.

The TSE, Japan’s largest exchange with an overwhelming 89 per cent market share, had 1,711 companies listed on its first section (excluding foreign companies) as of Tuesday compared with 1,727 in 2007.
