Accounting institute leadership candidate withdraws

Graham Durgan has withdrawn his candidacy for presidency of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales to avoid further press speculation following the award of "recommended supplier status" to his company from the institute.

Mr Durgan, who is deputy president, submitted a letter to the institute's council meeting yesterday saying he had decided to withdraw his candidacy to avoid "continued speculation".
