EU divided over plan to increase energy efficiency

A split over how to cut Europe’s ballooning energy bill is stalling efforts to increase efficiency savings. Finland, which holds the EU presidency, on Thursday urged the European Commission to approve an efficiency action plan in the next few weeks after discussion of it was suddenly postponed.

Helsinki said it wanted the plan, outlining how states can reduce energy consumption by 20 per cent by 2020, agreed before a meeting of EU energy ministers in November.
