UK banks face voluntary tax code

Banks face the threat of Revenue & Customs investigations if they refuse to sign a “gentlemen’s agreement” to curb aggressive tax avoidance.

The voluntary code, to persuade banks to comply with “the spirit of the law”, is to be published on Monday to try to assuage public anger at support for banks that engage in complex schemes that drain the exchequer of hundreds of millions of pounds.
