Regulator rules against diploma advert

An advertisement by the government that claimed the new diploma qualification “can get you into any university” has been branded untruthful by the advertising watchdog.

The ruling is particularly embarrassing for ministers because the Advertising Standards Authority throws doubt on one of their central arguments in favour of children taking diplomas: that they have already become a universal currency in university admissions.
