Sourcing funding the unconventional way

When Phytopharm, a biotech company near Cambridge, found it difficult to raise fresh funding from the private sector for its experimental drug for Parkinson’s disease, it turned to an unusual source of capital.

In January, it announced a $1.2m payment from the Michael J Fox Foundation, a nonprofit organisation named after the US actor.
