EU rejects Brown plan for protectionism taskforce

A UK proposal to set up a taskforce to help prise open Europe’s most protected economic sectors has been rejected by Brussels as pointless and bureaucratic.

Gordon Brown, chancellor of the exchequer, urged fellow finance ministers to create an expert panel to advise the European Commission on which industries were most subject to protectionism.
