House sales to decline by third, says Rics

The number of house sales could slide by more than a third this year unless economic circumstances improve, according to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

House prices are set to fall by 5 per cent, the professional body will predict on Monday, but the most striking impact of the credit squeeze will be on the number of transactions, which could drop by up to 40 per cent.
