Nigerian court allows Abubakar to stand

The Nigerian presidential contest was thrown open on Monday when a Supreme Court ruling paved the way for a last-minute bid by Atiku Abubakar, the vice-president.

The seven-member court ruled unanimously that Inec, the official electoral body, could not disqualify candidates, overruling a previous decision by a lower court.
