Saudis shocked by UK hostility to king

Whether out of habit, ­pressure, or nationalist pride, the Saudi press ignored the furore surrounding King Abdullah’s two-day state visit to Britain, filling pages with reports of warm welcomes and happy moments.

Among Saudi officials too, the wave of criticism provoked by the first Saudi royal visit in 20 years was consistently played down, the emphasis put instead on the more harmonious encounters with the Queen and top British officials.
