Nordic postal groups to merge

Sweden and Denmark have agreed to merge their postal services and float the new company to face off growing competition in the Nordic market.

The merger – which should be completed by the end of this year after parliamentary approval – will create a so-far-unnamed company with sales of SKr45bn ($7.5bn). This is expected to generate substantial economies of scale and enable the new company to expand further into northern Europe and the Baltic states.
