Tour in turmoil as dope scandal bars leader

The Tour de France was in turmoil Wednesday night after leader Michael Rasmussen of Denmark was thrown out of the world’s most famous cycling race.

It was the most dramatic development yet in a series of doping scandals to hit the tour. Rasmussen, 33, had been the focus of controversy for missing out-of-competition drugs tests, which had prompted his removal from the Denmark national team.
