TUC and employers split over pensions

The government's challenge in reforming the pension system was starkly illustrated yesterday as employers, pension providers and the trade union movement divided over whether the retirement age should rise to help pay for a higher state pension.

Lord Turner's Pension Commission is expected to propose later this month that the state system should pay more but that the age at which a full state pension can be claimed should, over time, rise from 65 to 67.
