It may not be advisable to play bat and ball in a jewellery shop. But the staff at Beaverbrooks The Jewellers’ store in Lakeside shopping centre in Essex start the day with a quick knock-around.

Melanie Hurrell, assistant manager of Beaverbrooks’ fourth largest branch, says a morning game helps her staff get in the mood for the day. “With a smile on your face, you can sell anything,” she explains.
