iPod sales surge boosts Apple

Surging demand for the popular iPod digital music player enabled Apple Computer on Wednesday to beat expectations by reporting its fourth quarter earnings more than doubled.

The US computer group also said earnings in its current quarter would handily surpass Wall Street expectations. Apple shares jumped almost 6 per cent in after hours trading on Wednesday.
