Falling wages threaten recovery

The tentative global economic recovery now under way is threatened by stagnant or falling wages in many countries that will limit household spending, the International Labour Organisation warned on Tuesday.

In its latest global wages report, the UN agency says growth in real wages, adjusted for inflation, slowed sharply in 2008 and “the picture ... is likely to get worse in 2009”.
