US sanctions on Russia ‘unlawful’

Moscow has condemned as groundless and unlawful a US move to impose sanctions on two of Russia’s biggest defence groups over arms sales to Iran.

The companies – Rosoboronexport, an arms export agency run by a friend of Vladimir Putin, the president, and the Sukhoi aircraft maker – were among seven groups penalised by Washington for violating a law aimed at preventing the spread of weapons of mass destruction to Iran.
