Activists: Repute improves but returns decline

Activist hedge fund managers are often vilified as ravening locusts, willing to wreck a company’s long-term prospects in order to boost its dividends and short-term share price.

But new research suggests that activists often have a more beneficial impact, improving both short-term stock prices and long-term corporate performance.
