Argentine farmers pressing the government to lower export tariffs they say are bleeding them dry today marked the first anniversary of the start of their protest with a rally in the country’s second biggest city, and roadside demonstrations in key farming areas.
Cristina Fernández, president, who last week held two-hours of talks with farm leaders, expressed her frustration on the eve of the protests, blasting “a sector that never seems satisfied, even though every day, despite its extraordinary profits, we give it some measure, some subsidy, some compensation”.
