Stocks rally as attention turns to system fix

A structural solution for the problem of toxic assets in the financial system suddenly looked possible on Thursday night after Hank Paulson, Ben Bernanke and members of Congress held a dramatic meeting to discuss the crisis.

The US officials are believed to have proposed a vehicle very loosely modelled on the Resolution Trust Corporation used to clean up the mess after the Savings and Loan crisis.
