Scores of tax consultants yesterday rushed to condemn the proposal drawn up by Revenue & Customs that could allow the seizure of unpaid taxes from people's bank accounts without a court order.

They argued such a move would unfairly strengthen the Revenue's powers to the detriment of taxpayers' rights to appeal to the courts.
