IT role model: A game of poker is just part of the job

In most technology roles, spending the day playing cards with colleagues might be grounds for dismissal. For Kinga Turska, a crash-course in poker was a vital part of her first-week induction.

Ms Turska leads the development of poker products at online gambling company Betfair, but when she took up the position in January 2007, she had never played the game before. Nor was she familiar with much of the slang that poker players use, so learning to tell “the flop” from “the river” and recognise when players in a tournament were “on the bubble” was a challenge for the native Polish speaker.
