North Korea hints at more economic reforms

North Korea hinted at a desire to implement further economic reforms last week, when officials discussed how to modernise state-owned enterprises and to attract foreign investment during a European Union-organised conference in Pyongyang.

Following the price liberalisations and autonomy given to state companies in 2002, the second workshop suggested the northern regime was at least toying with the idea of introducing further reforms in its decaying centrally-planned economy.
