Brown vision clouded by critics

Helmut Schmidt, the former West German chancellor, had a succinct piece of advice for politicians who start thinking big: “People who have a vision should go see a doctor.”

Gordon Brown may wish he had heeded that dictum before explaining he had aborted Labour’s planned November election not because of bad polls, but because he wanted time to explain his “vision for change in Britain”.
