Reigniting interest in plantations

It is almost 16 years since the plantations sector of the FT London share service was dropped.

The market capitalisation of the remaining plantation companies had become too small to make a separate index sector possible. It marked a sorry decline from the middle of the 20th century, when there were several hundred quoted companies growing commodities such as rubber in Malaya and tea in Ceylon, as those countries were then known.
