The Office of Fair Trading said on Monday it will look into whether a joint venture by the BBC, ITV and Channel 4 to broadcast archive programmes over the internet represents an anti-competitive merger.
Project Kangaroo, which has brought the UK’s three largest terrestrial broadcasters together, will see a huge archive of programmes released over the internet either on a pay-per-view or advertising supported model. No date has yet been set and the formal name of the service has not been released, but it is expected to begin in the third quarter of this year.
