Glittering gallery of perennial appeal

The diamonds on display in the Victorian & Albert museum's new jewellery gallery, opening at the end of May, are more dazzling than they have been for more than 30 years.

For a decent sparkle, diamonds need a good cut, colour and clarity, but they also need to be clean. Diamonds do get dirty, and require a wash and brush-up from time to time.
