Allies claim their Iraq strategy is vindicated

The US administration on Sunday hailed the Iraqi elections as a success that vindicated its strategy of spreading democracy in the Middle East.

President George W. Bush said he was “incredibly encouraged by the Iraqi people” and described it as a “great day”, according to Condoleezza Rice, secretary of state. Every indication showed the election was going better than expected, she told television networks.
