More than 2,000 paramilitary troops skirmished with small shopkeepers on the streets of New Delhi on Tuesday as traders protested against the court-ordered demolition of businesses illegally located in residential areas.

The Indian government has ordered schools to stay closed throughout the capital until Thursday in anticipation of arson attacks on buses and gridlock on the city’s already congested streets.
