Savers flock to Northern Rock

Northern Rock, the UK bank which was nationalised earlier this year, said it had been swamped by worried savers wanting to open accounts because of the market turmoil.

It also announced on Tuesday it had ruled out taking legal action against former directors who led it into difficulty, including ex-chief executive Adam Applegarth.
