Trichet stays silent on future policy

Jean-Claude Trichet, the European Central Bank’s president, emphasised on Thursday the boldness of a 75 basis point cut in its main interest rate.

He highlighted the extent of the eurozone’s economic downturn – but indicated that borrowing costs might not fall much further.
