Banks cut back on overseas lending

Banks retreated from foreign lending at the fastest rate since records began 30 years ago in the final quarter of last year, the Bank for International Settlements said on Wednesday.

The BIS report came as the Federal Reserve held policy unchanged at its April meeting, saying the “economic outlook has improved modestly since the March meeting”.
